Meet Kelvin Elgar, a senior high school student at Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School. He is the eldest son of Kevin Elgar and Tess Elgar. Kelvin epitomizes a role model for Filipino-American youth today. He was born in the Philippines and his whole family migrated to the United States when he was 4 years old. His dad works as a Physical Therapist and owns 5KMT Therapy Services, LLC; his mom left her Dental practice to be a full-time mother of 4.

Starting at a young age, his parents supported his passion to compete academically and be the best that he can be in the world of swimming (National & State level). For the past 13 years, Kelvin was able to juggle the rigorous schedule it entails to train for his swimming & compete, do his homework and still excel in school.

His typical day is to wake up at 5:30 AM to practice swimming at Natatorium/ Wellness/ LU swimming complex. Then, he will attend school typically from 7:45 AM to 3:00 PM. After school, he will do all his school responsibilities and then at 7:00PM-9:30PM, he will swim again. Together with the whole family, their weekends are dedicated to driving or flying to different cities of the United States to compete for swimming.

On top of these activities, Kelvin is the current President of MKCHS & was the past President of St Anne Catholic School student council, an altar server at St. Anne Catholic Church, Youth Leader of SETX, MKCHS Student Counselor & Music Ministry Guitarist, NatIonal Honor Society Executive Board, etc. With these schedule and extra-curricular activities, he is still able to maintain his top rank throughout High School & Elementary school. If you ask Kelvin, he will tell you that all his hard work did pay off.

Next month, Kelvin will graduate as the Valedictorian for MKCHS Class 2019. He will be a freshman at Lamar University of Beaumont taking up chemical engineering with a Mirabeau Scholarship. It is an "Academic/ Merit Full-Ride Scholarship". His ultimate dream is to pursue a medical degree or chemical engineering in the future.

Kelvin, at a young age of 17 is getting ready to face a his new challenges as a college student. He decided to temporarily leave the world of swimming in order to focus on his college courses. With the strong support of his family, his discipline, his tenacity, and passion for hard work; we know that Kelvin will be able to achieve his goals.

More power to you Kelvin and Congratulations to you and your proud parents!!!
